The Four Agreements
The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom (A Toltec Wisdom Book)
Author: Don Miguel Ruiz
Published: 1997 by Amber-Allen Publishing.

This is an absolutely wonderful book that has swept across the West & made it into many unlikely households. For all those new to the path of awakening, this is definitely a suggested 1st read. Interestingly enough, weather your Buddhist, Christian, Atheist or whatever, this book has the knack for appealing to almost anyone. If you put these simple agreements into practice, you will never see the world in the same way & it will change your life forever!

This book is written from the perspective of Toltec tradition, an ancient wisdom tradition of American Indian people that flourished in Mexico before the Aztecs.  The book explains how we live in a “dream world” which we think to be reality created by our own conditioning. This negative Dream World in turn produces our own misery. We then share this misery in the “collective dream” which we believe to be reality. The Four Agreements show us how we have already been “domesticated” to accepted many agreements as our own then continue to maintain them, which is the reason why we experience mental & emotional suffering.  But if we can adopt these 4 new simple agreements then we can learn to see through the dream & end our habitual pasterns of negativity, becoming the creators of a new Dream; one not of Hell on Earth but of Heaven. In Buddhism; called Nirvana, inner-peace, contentment, & abiding joy, here & now.Don Miguel Ruiz

These Four Agreements are:

  • Be Impeccable With Your Word.
  • Don’t Take Anything Personally.
  • Don’t Make Assumptions.
  • Always Do Your Best.

This is a short & simple book, an easy read for anybody & the paper-back is priced cheaper than most books. It is readily available on the web & likely at any books store with a “spiritual” or “self-help” section & I have even seen it & Target & other large stores. It is also available on audio format read by the author himself on CD or for your mp3 player. This is a book you will likely return to again & again so if you have the money I would suggest going ahead & getting the hard cover for a few bucks more or going ahead & grabbing the The Four Agreements Toltec Wisdom Collection: 3-Book Boxed Set which is a super good price for 3 amazing books. I suppose I’ll have to review the Box-Set later!

Just get the book – you won’t regret it!

  2. I have flipped through this book. Perhaps I should give it a deeper look.
